In the exposition of John 10.22-42, we find references to the Feast of the Dedication - the celebration of Hanukkah, the re-dedication or consecration of the temple. As the Jerusalem temple was a physical representation of the true spiritual temple (which is each of us), the dedication for followers of Christ symbolize our denial of self (and the eradication of self and self-will as the idol that displaced God) as we devote ourselves to the will of God, reinstalling the Heavenly Father as the God of our temple.
